Understanding and Effectively Managing Diversity

This new and updated course enables all personnel, teams and groups to successfully meet the challenge of "diversity". This program will offer a more balanced understanding to effectively deal with interpersonal relationships and their cultures

Objective:

Cultural diversity problems exist in some form in all organizations. Devising ways for employees to expand their individual comfort zones is a challenge that must be met. Managerial tactics and behaviors that worked in previous years have become ineffective. Inadequate awareness, racial discord, sensitivity, insensitivity, and systematic deficiencies, in many cases, have created steep liabilities for many organizations.

This course will discuss the enactment of the Civil Rights Act of 1991 and the various EEO laws prohibiting job discrimination; identify the barriers to diversity, point out the difference between the quantitative approach to affirmative action, the qualitative and behavioral approach to valuing and managing diversity, and the standard human resource approach. Managers and superiors will be guided to challenge themselves by seeking to understand their own values, prejudices, and aspirations in order to cope with and overcome diversity related issues in a constructive manner.
